Ales Bialiatski, one of the winners of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize, has been sentenced to ten years in prison by the Lukashenko regime.

Bialiatski, along with Valiantsin Stefanovich, Uladzimir Labkovicz, and Dzmitry Salauyou, were given a variety of prison sentences for their criticism of Lukashenko, although the “official charges” in their show trials ranged from violating public order to smuggling.

Ales #Bialiatski was a founder of the leading human rights group, #Viasna - and is being tried along with two fellow campaigners. All three were involved in the 2020 #protests which broke out in #Belarus in response to #elections widely criticised as being #fraudulent. Colleagues say they've been charged with tax offences, and helping people engaged in "gross violation of public order".

The trial of the Human Rights Center "#Viasna" starts today in #Minsk.
