Most politicians are good people. I hope I was one of those.

Commentary by Fiona Patten (who I'm really going to miss).

Objectively, I think Victoria's donations system is unfair.

The rules allowed the old parties to 'grandfather' their wealth and prevented new parties and independents from establishing competitive campaign funds.

That's not to suggest that allowing a free-for-all is the solution.

Victorian Upper House results give left of centre parties 22 of 40 seats, one more than previously. Two of those seats went to Legalise Cannabis. It'll be interesting to see if any deals on that issue need to made to ensure passage of other legislation.

For several weeks I've been passing this corflute at a distance and presumed it was for the Legalise Cannabis Party.

With Fiona Patten being defeated and Legalise Cannabis on an estimated three seats (up from none) in the upper house, I can't help but wonder if this particular campaign strategy was ill-advised.

I'm very disappointed to see Fiona Patten has been excluded in the latest estimate for the Victorian upper house.

She has conceded defeat per news story here: abc.net.au/news/2022-12-12/fio

Victorian Socialists performed much better than 'freedom' parties at the election, but I can't recall any media coverage about them?

Laverton - Victorian Socialists polled fourth at 6.4%. abc.net.au/news/elections/vic/

Kororoit - Victorian Socialists polled third at 6.7%, ahead of the Greens! abc.net.au/news/elections/vic/

They did well at inner-city districts, too, but fewer 'freedom' parties to compare against.

So what I personally find incredible interesting about the last and even more so the fallout that came from it, is the huge blunders made by the and their propaganda machine at and the in particular, but also by many more media outlets and fringe parties.

And that is that they thought they could decide the debate and talking points of this election.

But the journalists over at had done quite a bit of research in where the people of Victoria wanted to talk about:

theage.com.au/politics/victori

For those who haven't read it, the picture shows the top issues: Integrity, Health, Environment, Transport, Cost Of Living, Education.

Looking at the 'winners' of the last election (The Nationals, the Socialists, The Greens, even the ALP a bit) these were the parties actually actively debating these issues and didn't keep themselves too busy with 'the steps the premier fell off.'

It actually gives me a bit of hope for the future that we might be discussing the citizen's agenda going forward and not pay attention to what Murdoch says the discourse would be.

Like what is happening now. Another attack on wokeness, battling against the Voice to Parliament.

I have discussions in my local - my - and these are not the discussions going on. But Cost Of Living and Rail-lines are.
