For the prudent and thrifty child in your life, a moneybox always goes down well. And if your child is a little fashionista, you might consider a fancy imported one like this made from French Santoinge pottery. Found in 13th century levels at Wood Quay, Dublin.

Musical instruments are always a popular toy (for someone else's children).

These bone flutes & buzzbones would make quite a racket! The buzzbones had a cord thread through the hole and twisted, when the cord was pulled it rotated the bone, producing a loud buzz.

As long as there have been children, there have been toys. As it's the I thought I'd share some of my favourite toys in the National Museum of Ireland.

Many toys through history copy adult life, like this wonderful toy boat and sword from Viking Dublin. You can just imagine the little child dreaming of being a warrior!
