As with most things lately, I’m moving to older and opener tech. Trying out #syncthing + #vimwiki now. So far so good…
@ninokadic Obsidian is super cool too. I use it in combination with #vimwiki (since they both rely on Markdown files) to keep track of basically everything in my life.
Anyone keep a daily log? I've been back and forth between #vimwiki and physical paper. I can't seem to merge the two. I thought maybe I'd keep the vimwiki more along the lines of links, one-liners, etc but I find I'm jotting thoughts that I'd potentially be doing on paper?
I guess the short question is how to merge the analogue with the digital systems?

I use #vimwiki on the desktop and sync the relevant directories with my smartphone using #syncthing. Syncthing is also running there, so I don't need a third instance, just a shared network. #markor is my mobile markdown editor. Both apps are available from the F-Droid repo.
Maximum independence 😍

TIL about Vimwiki (https://vimwiki.github.io/) thanks to @vkc mentioning it in a post.
I already kept notes and task lists as Markdown documents and this looks like a really good way to pull things together more easily.

@ilyess My note-taking trajectory brought me through Standard Notes, and then after that was Zim Wiki. After learning Vim and deciding that I enjoy terminal apps, I migrated to #vimwiki, and don't see that changing in the foreseeable future.
For phone sync, I use #syncthing plus #markor
Markor handles Zim Wiki and Markdown syntax, but not native vimwiki syntax.
@ilyess Thanks for the interesting blog post!
Sadly, I'm not skilled enough with #Vim's bizzare keybinds to be properly productive with it; I just use it to configure things via ssh...
I'm sure that if I were more skilled with it #Vimwiki would have been a good option though.
And thanks for mentioning #Logseq, I've never heard of it before and it sounds like something I should check out (while keeping the caveats you mentioned in mind)!
Hey folx
#vim #vimwiki #gemini #GeminiTools question.
Anyone know of a vimwiki syntax to gemtext converter?
I know that there are several from markdown to gemtext, and several from html to gemtext, and I suppose I could just chain vimwiki2html and one of the html to gemtext ones, but I figured the overlap of vimwiki #digitalGarden people and gemini folx would be reasonably high. Nothing turning up when I websearch for it though.

The reason I was looking at this, I was looking at how I could write helper tools for my #vimwiki "project", which is meant to kind of collect and organize ideas.
Working on a routine to journal, and capture todos in the process, an idea is to feed this information to a PineTime watch, which uses BLE, the conclusion I'm coming to is that I have to share files with an android device, over a wireguard VPN, then write something to parse the files, and feed that information to the watch.

@hyde @bbbhltz I'm in the "#obsidian with #vim editing turned on" camp for notes, after spending years trying to wrangle #vimwiki into working for me.
I have a bunch of different vaults for different things, most of which I sync between personal devices with #Syncthing

Tried #Logseq. Was pretty impressed until I realized that I can’t store its files where I want to, or use Mobius Sync because it restricts graph creation to “blessed” folders and the devs apparently can’t (or won’t) use iOS file providers (I suspect another #Obsidian style paid sync service is required, and I don’t want that either).
Went back to using #vimwiki in #a-Shell, which can access literally _anything_ on the iPad file system.

VimWiki a été mis à jour (après plus de 2 ans).
Hey all. This is an announcement / support / tips & tricks / related links / whatever comes to mind sort of account for the VimWiki plugin.
Nobody seems quite sure if it's spelled "VimWiki" or "Vimwiki" or "vimwiki".
As of this writing, the latest release is 2022.12.02, which bundles up a bunch of fixes and additions from the last couple of years:

Logseq looks pretty good for personal wiki/knowledge management/notes-taking stuff. I like a lot of things about it.
But I’m resisting the usual urge to go all-in once I find something good, to transfer everything from my previous systems to this asap.
Going slow will let me find out what the weak spots of this particular ecosystem are, before I invest too much into it. Then, I can figure what use-cases are best fit for it, and what should remain in other systems.

@suprjami I like #vim enough to incorporate it into my everyday writing and #journaling, but I can't do it without lots of tweaks in .vimrc and a few core plugins, to include #Vimwiki , vim-tmux-navigator, and #fzf plus fzf.vim
