Many people have forgotten about PCMCIA, but in its time, it was the widely accepted way to add functionality to laptops and other mobile devices. In this video we use a Toshiba Libretto notebook computer to recover data from an old PCMCIA SD Card.

A brief update from the offices of VA...

We're hard at work on the next video. All filming has been completed, and assets are ready to be edited, assembled, and augmented to make the video interesting.

The PDP/11 third video is 95% shot, the delay on the next installment is a technical one, I'm waiting for some equipment to come back from repair.

If anyone has suggestions / ideas for topics to cover, please let me know!

Got a chance to get to the #mitflea - firs time this year. This is a great monthly #hamfest / #fleamarket hosted at (obvs) #mit.

Among other things, picked up this box full of #pcmcia cards for $5. Can't argue about that! Complete with cable dongles. Some of these are ones I haven't seen before.

Working on getting BeOS 4.0 installed, upgraded to an ATi Mach64GT for the GPU with 4MB VRAM. Not sure why its not displaying with the correct aspect ratio...

Apparently I placed a bid on eBay last night and just got the notice I won a "1998 ATI 3D Rage Pro AGP 4MB" for $1.99, total with shipping was $8.96. Even if the card doesn't work hopefully the VRAM expansion does as I have two cards that can use it.

Fixed the two issues, one being the broken power connector and the second being a leaky NiCD battery.

Powered it on via the bench PSU and its working without issue, minus the damaged power plug and keyboard but I might have sourced replacements.

eBay sold me a "Trigon Titan-M (Compaq OEM)" which includes the hard to find cache module already installed, not sure if its the 256K or 512K. Planning on making this my OS/2 Warp 3/4 system.

Also planning on soldering on the max supported VRAM/RAM to the board once I source chips.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Five hours of soldering, 4 yesterday and 1 today, the Labs Blasterboard is done! Anchor had the latch IC and -5v regulator I needed. I forgot to also get 2x 560 Ohm resistors. Big thanks to @Helvetica for spotting me 2 of them. Anyway I did t realize this didn’t come with any jumpers, so I need to track down some spares.

Will do a “Smoke Test” tomorrow after a very careful visual inspection. Oh I had 2 IC’s on backwards, so fixed that too. #vintagecomputers
