Back in 2012 the New York Public Library put online a gallery of over 9,000 photographs and illustrations from the Middle East, dating from the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century.

I've been scrolling through these amazing images and tonight I settled on the photos and postcards of Karnak Temple in Egypt. I visited this temple back in 2010 and snapped a pile of photos, so I've tried to match my photos up with some from the 1800s. Hope you like
The pic posted here is pretty cool IMO as I managed to capture almost the exact image. I was clearly channeling the original photographer Antonio Beato back in the 1860s

Everyone has those old #FamilyPhotos of people we know are related somehow, but don’t know exactly who they’re supposed to be. #Genealogists have often found themselves questioning relatives in vain for hours, trying to get any kind of a name to put to the mystery subjects of old & faded #photos, to get any idea of when or where the photos were taken.
It can be incredibly frustrating!
But there is an easier way.
Even if you have no idea of which family line the photo comes from, you can often deduce what year the photo was taken; and by extension, who is in the photo… with just a little help from Google & the internet.

This goes way back. This is a photo of my wife's parents. It was 1946. Her father had just returned from the war in Europe. They were married shortly thereafter.
My wife found this photo in her father's wallet when he passed in 1994. Both edges and the bottom had been folded in to fit the wallet.
She took the photo to a photo lab and had an 8x10 made from it. The lab cropped the image to eliminate the creases.We framed it and put it up.
In 2017 I came across the photo while I was busy scanning old family photos and film. I scanned it, restored it with Photoshop and printed a proper 8x10 which replaced the first one in the frame.
Fun Fact: In the car window behind them you can see a sticker with an "A" on it. That was for the wartime gas rationing system. The "A" classification was the lowest and permitted the owner to purchase about 4 gallons of gasoline per week.
