A 2019 100% #ecological, #biodynamic #Vinyater made by Dasca Vives from the Alt Camp of #Tarragona. Vinyater is a total rarity of a #grape with only 8 hectares being planted. Its origins are obscure. Josep and Alba have clung on to their old vines for sentimental reason and the #wine they make from it is a labour of love; only 1000 bottles are produced each year. Hand harvested, fermented with #indigenous #yeast and bottled without filtering, the first thing one notices is that whiff of banana, apricot, melon and fresh citrus. There is a light oxidized touch and a subtle acidity that amplifies on the palate, together with hints of blood orange, beeswax, wild honeysuckle and ripe grapefruit for a light bitter finale. It's an expressive wine which reflects its surrounding: the fields of olive, almond and carob trees, a soil that is both calcareous and filled with marine sediments, the sun and the wind from the sea. One of those wine you feel lucky to have met.

Two souvenirs from yesterday's walk at the Alt Camp: a #Vinyater (another almost extinct vine variety), and a Vi Ranci, both #ecologic and #biodynamic, made with indigenous yeast, using natural clarification and minimal intervention.
The #vinery is called Dasca Vives a little oasis of times gone by located next to the second largest refinery in Europe (sounds gruesome but the quality of the wines shows that it can be done).
Will crack open the Ranci this afternoon and share some notes.
