One of the most listened to albums in my collection.
I went through about 4 CD copies of this in my youth, and I found the record in a dusty box on Vancouver Island with no price tag on it.
I ended up paying 20 bucks for it.
People STILL offer me ridiculous money for this on Discogs, and I’m shocked to see what their worth now.
This is still good for 2-3 spins a month for me.
“Believe” is STILL the jam.
A signature #90s anthem, baby!

What a great find!
$10 from a clearance bin, the hype sticker promises that their indie-noise/electronic identity finds a melancholy kind of darkness here.
SOLD.

It’s really fun. There’s some definite Japandroids/Refused type vibes here, but there are serious hooks & melodies.
“Heat” is a killer tune, and the albums electronic flourishes are subtle and very complementary.
REALLY dig this.
I assume they are now defunct?

A beautiful, heartbreaking work of art.
Beck’s breakup/divorce album; his Blood On The Tracks if you will.
Not only is it HIS unquestioned masterpiece, its Nigel Godrich’s as well.
His work on the Radiohead albums made him famous (for good reason), but as a producer, this is also HIS master stroke.
An amazing pressing of this.
It sounds so good, that you wonder where other mastering & pressing efforts are going wrong.

A nice breakfast this morning; some apple pancakes & Elbow.

I love Elbow, & it started way back when I got a promo CD single of this while working at the HMV in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Ma back in the early Oughts.
I was immediately taken by this song,& particularly Guy Garvey’s voice.
The 2nd of the three songs here, Lucky With Disease, is also wonderful.
BTW, don’t compare your apple pancakes to mine. Yours are shit. 😂

I finally created a Discogs list of vinyl I have been carrying around since I was 14. Over the years the stack has paired down to just two ‘pleather’ storage boxes, still adorned with early nineties catchphrases like “argue for your limitations and sure enough they are yours” and “these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain” - hand typed, cut out, and glued on to the box.

The cost of some of them amazed me, and I think their value only comes about because they were pressed so long ago.

Key shocks were Nevermind by Nirvana, Debut by Bjork, and the soundtrack to Terminator with gatefold. Also not surprised that Meet Danny Wilson and Introducing The Hardline According to Terrence Trent D’Arby were nearly worthless.

This also happens to be one of my three or so favorite album covers of all time. I don’t know how you can look at it, &NOT want to get as high as an elephant’s balls.
I want to get a 2nd copy of this JUST for the cover, so I can stretch the gatefold out into its complete image, & have it framed.
It’s just so beautiful.
