A bit of Vinyl Friday. Today, the eponymous Ska classic from The Specials.

A classic: 1976's Hotel California by the Eagles. Seriously, what needs to be said.

Don't tell me how much you hate the country rock John Denver put out. Yes, his later stuff was stupid (why oh why did he do Thank God I'm a Country Boy) but his early music was sweet, inspired, and perfectly crafted.
So, John Denver's Greatest Hits for a gloomy Friday afternoon.

It's been awhile since I did Vinyl Friday. Been busy I guess. Anyway, today's pick is one of my oldest records, #ELP #BrainSaladSurgery. One of the most notable prog rock albums, my version has the original HR Giger fold out. Still, one of my favorite prog rock albums.

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis. I acquired this yesterday at a church book sale. The jacket is not in good condition but the album is in excellent condition. Sometimes you just get lucky.
One of my favorite albums is spinning now for #vinylfriday. Jeff Wayne's musical version of H.G. Wells's "War of the Worlds" is a true masterpiece.

Final entry for instrumental (ok, jazz fusion) #VinylFriday is 1982's Offramp by the Pat Metheny Group. At this time, Metheny was using his guitar synth more than he had previously. It is experimental at time, but like most of his 80s albums it stays lyrical. The follow up album As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls, is a bit more accessible. Keyboardist and long time collaborator Lyle Mays shines more on that album but is still prominent here.
I had the opportunity to see Metheny in the late 80s and thought he leaned in too hard on the dissonance and synthesized guitar sounds. He was, as always, technically brilliant.

More instrumental music on #VinylFriday. Up now, Jean Luc Ponty's 1982 album Mystical Adventure. I bought this album a few years after its release, in the later half of the 80s. While I had previously dabbled in jazz-rock fusion, such as the Dixie Dregs, I leaned into a bit more in the late 80s. Ponty was one of my favorites. His work bordered on progressive rock and new age. An no, I wasn't smoking a lot of pot then...

A special #VinylFriday! Today it's all instrumental music. I'm starting with Unsung Heroes from The Dregs. Originally the Dixie Dregs, they dropped the Dixie part as the moved away from Southern Rock and into more mainstream hard rock. If you want incredible musicianship and musical gymnastics, this album is for you.
