Solo by Nils Frahm is a fascinating record. Given the opportunity to play a David Klavins 370 vertical grand piano (370cm tall!) Nils Frahm decided to left the piano dictate the music and just improvised. The space he leaves means we hear the piano as much as we hear the music. Stunning. Also, it's the only record I've ever seen with liner notes in braille. Not traditional jazz, but spontaneous composition certainly.
