One particular one, called IRBP (for interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein), codes for a protein which shuttles the vitamin A complexes which have been activated by photons of light [setting off an electrical pulse which activates the optic nerve] to the retinal pigment epithelium to be reset for the next photon. So, take your vitamin A in the form of fish, dairy + eggs + some vegetables.
