I'm a cradle #Catholic. I did all the stuff (Baptism, Fist Communion, Confirmation) as a wee lad. I was born here all my life. When I was around four years old, the church kicked out my mom and, by extension, my family. I explored other faiths, #meditation, #yoga, #Buddhism, and all the things. I wanted to not convert to a religion or practice that I had not been born to or wasn't otherwise ancestrally connected. I explored Protestant fellowships but soon began seeking "the deeper things" back in the lives of saints. This led to a deep dive into the #EarlyChurch Fathers and early church history. Entering the #OrthodoxChurch, I lived in several monasteries and wandered around the US like the guy in Way of a Pilgrim. I was ultimately drawn to #Theosis and the #PrayerOfTheHeart, sometimes called the #JesusPrayer. That church became tedious as well. Long story short, decades later, a pandemic, and a few ends of the world here I am. I recently stumbled across a podcast called the #PopeFrancisGeneration. I'm intrigued. I am listening. Let's see where my current studies lead.

I think I have finally realized how #visualthinking can work for me, thanks to @zsviczian and his excalidraw plugin for Obsidian.

Example: I'm working on writing a paper out of my PhD research. This is a complex paper with many nuanced results and for a long time it was hard for me to "remember" what's going on in there. I had this note describing the results. The text is there, but I didn't manage to remember what's going on.

I just finished reading Temple Grandin's new book "Visual Thinking". I wrote a pretty long review and thought I'd share.

DIAGRAMS + THOUGHT. Medieval scholars used to think with the help of tree diagrams. That is how they would reason through distinctions, as one example of a reasoning task aided by visuals. A new book explores this tendency, which I’m interested in because I’m trying to advance the art of thinking through diagramming and the roots of the practice run deep, apparently.

We recently hired 3 junior devs. Incredibly, they do not take notes and when they do, are useless. I mean, their notes are not organized, do not gather important information and are barely understandable.

How is this possible?

I decided to give them a quick wshop and I mapped the agenda with the 3x3 system.

Turned out that a "quick" wshop is not possible 😂
