Just did the first brix (sugar) test on the chardonnay. It was 18.6. Maybe good if we were going to make sparkling wine. By comparison, last year we harvested it August 28th at 25 brix. Looks like all the grapes are still a month behind 2022. #viticulture

This is only one set of samples, but demonstrates the risk you take by relying on berry samples. Taking cluster samples is the more accurate method...

Our first sign of veraison on the table grapes. This particular variety is Thomcord - a cross between Concord and Thompson seedless. They are great when ripe. They are usually 2 weeks ahead of the wine grapes. Veraison is when the grapes start changing color from green to red. Brix (sugar) is about 15% at this point, but the acids are really high and the grapes are pretty sour. #viticulture

À droite c'est le château d'Aguilar, puis le village de Tuchan, ensuite il s'agit de Paziols. Et l'on finit sur le Canigou.

La pierraille et la vigne sont partout. Au-dessus de Tuchan, l'on devine le Mont Tauch.

Les Corbières savent être dures et splendides tout à la fois.

Finally picked up #Viticulture. I find that I neither like the theme nor the artwork of a lot of classic/popular euro games (#hallertau #feastforodin #LeHarve )but the gameplay wins me over. No exception here. Fantastic solo mode and well constrained resource management despite having no interest in the theme or the art. Glad I finally picked it up.

I mentioned shatter in a previous post. The grape flowers don’t set fruit and just fall off. Here is an example in Grenache. Most of the crop looks pretty good this year, but we still have a number of marginal clusters like this. #viticulture.

The Grenache fruit set looks good. Won’t get a final look until we leaf pluck this week and check more of the vines, but this is a really good looking cluster. Grenache here is prone to shatter (where all the flowers just fall off leaving a very sparse stem). No sign on the few vines I checked. #viticulture
