I daresay that most Western philosophers and cognitive scientists studying do not know the full extent of the historical influences on their discipline

Many folks in modern Western consciousness studies trace their history back to William James but do not know that James was deeply influenced by Swami who was influenced by and his own guru, the great Bengali mystical saint Sri

Thus modern consciousness studies has a deeply origin story
