I have a home lab consisting of various raspberry Pi’s, mini form factor machines, etc. For ease of management I was considering getting something like a Dell PowerEdge with bare metal #ESXi, #vCenter and visualizing all the systems. I would get a #VMUG membership for the vCenter license. My systems are not CPU intensive, running #homeassistant #pihole, #calibre, #nextcloud, etc.

Other than initial hardware cost what might be the downsides of this setup?

It would be a single point of failure if the hardware goes down. I would get RAID for storage and RAID BOSS to hedge against HD failure.

I am picking the more expensive Dell due to their fast support options.

Shared storage on Synology DS1522+ 3.5TB SSD

10GB Networking for the storage portion. (Unifi Flex XG)

Running #vsphere 7 from #vmug

Mostly use it for #ad, #terraform, #packer testing

Using #unifi for networking.

I'm moving into #cybersecurity so I'm probably going to start using it for that purpose.

@AnnaInSask Among #homelab friends, #proxmox remains very popular. There's a few using #XCPng, but not nearly as many. Also a few who choose to do the #VMUG subscription and run #ESXi on the bare metal.
