Huh. I think somebody responded to my post about #VocalFry then blocked me. Maybe he really hates vocal fry?

I thought it was a glitch at first as I can still see his account description, but it doesn't have any posts visible and the Follow button is grayed out.

I think he might have blocked me though. I don't know what that looks like on Mastodon. I kind of thought it would mean I couldn't see the account at all.

I looked at my post with another account and the reply was gone.

I recently learned what "vocal fry" is and discovered to my chagrin that I have it. But efforts to stop make me sound (to myself anyway) like Miss Piggy. Or like I'm talking in my head voice for singing. Help?

Ever noticed that many people who criticize women for using vocal fry don't actually know what vocal fry is? Hint: it's not the same as uptalk or elongated vowels, and men use it a lot more than women do; in fact, it's most often heard in deep, male voices.

As an audio drama producer, I am very well attuned to voices and vocal intonations. So...

There is a couple at the cafe I'm now in who are obviously having a morning after moment.

The woman is going well out of her way to talk in a very fake vocal fry affectation, presumably a big hint to get this guy to say goodbye. But he's not biting. And so her vocal fry is becoming louder and more artificial and ever more grating and annoying. For fucks sake, why?

I am tempted to take this man aside and say, "Dude, it's as clear as day that she's not into you."

I am also tempted to take the woman aside and say, "For goodness sake, this is 2023. You're a woman of agency, not a patriarchal plaything. Lose this stiff if you can't stand him."

But this is mutually assured destruction, folks. Two people too arrogant to be direct. Too hubris-fueled to be respectfully adult. This hilarious sham breakfast ceremony in lieu of the walk of shame. What the hell?
