When I've started working on the form undo for #plone #volto, I had to first fix a lot of the widgets in Volto, before I could finish the feature.

Now I've started working on the Hero block, but I find myself looking into the basic rendering behavior of Volto, as things appear to re-render too many times. Seems I'm always taking the long way, I hope I'll come on top of this.

The stack is many technologies. I'll mention some of them: #apache #airflow for the harvester, #elasticsearch for the indexing, #haystack + custom services for #nlp, #react + #volto to deploy on our websites.

Airflow runs our home-grown harvester, I think we're probably the only ones in the world that built something like that
We use a combination of plone.restapi and headless browser screen reading to scrape the text. We're deploying on Volto websites with a customizable block.

I finally have a good understanding of what's needed to use the #plone plone-backend docker image to also develop simple Plone addons (I'm lazy. Just to clarify, my thoughts were not triggered by #volto #plone development process. It may apply there, but much less.

I'll mention "multiple wins" as a concept, or "return of investement". If we expect a pay off "this new developer will feel inspired and contribute more", then puting effort into the review process is worth it. But once we're deep down into the minutia of a complex project with colleagues we've been developing with for years... then things change.

New #plone #volto "small rule": If you have to tweak a schema for a block, it mus be done in a schema enhancer. Don't do it in the block edit component, as that makes it difficult to do (future) data validations and block default values. For more such rules: https://github.com/plone/volto/issues/2810
