In other news, spent the best part of an hour testing different settings in #HandBrake to get this video to maintain an acceptable quality and 60 fps. Tried #VP9 but it couldn't actually go low quality enough! :D It was still good quality but a big filesize. With #H264 I had many options of quality vs file size, but had to drop to 720p.

You know what would be a great way for Stadia Tech to have influenced The Game Awards tonight, in a twisted afterlife, if Google Stream is the host hardware providing the low latency 4K feed of the event!

It's worth the cost however they are pumping it, I was absolutely sick of watching game reveals and high end cinematic trailers with crushed blacks in 1080p

I just updated my article "Resize a video with FFmpeg for Mastodon" with new parameters for #FFmpeg to convert a #video to a #WebM #container using the #VP9 #codec for #video and the #Opus codec for #audio which are all #open, #royaltyfree and well-supported #formats.

This way you can easily convert very heavy videos before uploading them to #Mastodon while remaining within the strict limits.

@pascalblanche it's too heavy tbh, I downloaded and converted the video to the #VP9 codec with CRF 27 using #FFmpeg, and to my eyes it looks almost the same, but now weights just 2.2 MB instead of 18.3.
you might be able to get away with an higher CRF or lower constant bitrate, thus lower file size, but retaining good quality, if you actually encode in VP9 from the high quality source, instead of the compressed MP4 I had to download.
