One of the first customers to join David Energy's Adaptive Retail Rate program, taking advantage of their Sunnova solar + battery system to save money and to optimize their system. Much better to charge the #Batteries in one's home and vehicle when the prices go negative than it is to heat up one's home with unnecessary lights when there is excess production imho. Virtual Power Plants can turn consumers into #Prosumers #VPP

At AS8283 we've been plagued with some packetloss over the last years. In an attempt to rule out the switches / fibers / uplinks etc, @vnode and I took one machine and converted it from Linux based forwarding to VPP.
We announced a /24 behind that one router, and compared the before-during-after.
TL/DR: #VPP is a rock solid performer.

Putting aside one’s thoughts on Elon, I really love the idea of virtual power plants (#VPP). I hope to own a Powerwall or two at some point and contribute back to the grid. Would love to see every home and commercial building be part of a VPP.

Upgrading VPP dataplane is a dream.
1, raise OSPF cost on all backbound interfaces
2. set localpref0 and stop announcements in eBGP
This takes maybe 10 seconds.
3. when no traffic is flowing through the machine, I issue:
4. pkill -9 vpp; systemctl stop vpp; dpkg -i *deb
Which takes, all of 39 seconds, after which the dataplane and OSPF are back up.
5. put back into service when I re-announce BGP and put OSPF cost as-normal.
The whole operation? 75 seconds.
Just amazing. #vpp

Large solar projects have 3.5 yr waits for approval and #ClimateCrisisishere We need #cleanenergy and battery storage now and they can create #vpp. None of this is possible now that #gavinnewsom cut incentives by 75% for residents and 80% for schools community centers libraries city buildings and businesses. No one can afford #solarpanels now let alone batteries.
