Idea: Don't know how #AirBnB or #VRBO hosts will be handling refunds for travelers who were supposed to visit Maui and now will not to preserve resources, etc.

IF you can't get a refund on your Air B n B or vacation rental or if you have the means, would you be open to donate your stay to a displaced family?

Is anyone in the area willing to coordinate this effort? Also, as one Lahaina resident stated...there are many second home in West Maui....

We had a similar experience with #AirBNB.

"Airbnb’s cancellation policy trumps potential safeguarding concerns."

Our problem host rented us an insecure apartment. Anyone with access to a shared garage or a dental office had access. This was not clear from the listing, we felt insecure (we had our work computers), but AirBNB hid behind the host's cancellation policy. We lost a month's rent.

We switched to #vrbo.

I looked at #AirBnB & #VRBO not too long ago.
This meme isn't exaggerating, you can legitimately pay like $300 per night (in Yee-Haw territory no less) to basically rent someone's house & be required to basically clean it top to bottom before you leave.

Wow, perhaps I have not booked through #vrbo for a long time but I was charged a fully refundable deposit about a month before my trip and even after the host confirmed they have no issues to report, I won't get the deposit back until 15 days after the end of the trip. That's a lot of float money they are using across their system. 😠
