Interesting discussion with customers last week. Most of them have pretty high virtualization rates (mostly >90%) and it seems that the sun is going down for traditional storage systems. Customers prefer to move to vSAN or AOS and attach their "legacy" stuff with iSCSI to the HCI. #vExpert #vSAN #Nutanix

This is pretty interesting:

#VMware #vSAN only supports SAS and SATA devices attached to a Tri-mode controller.
NVMe devices attached to Tri-mode controller are NOT a vSAN supported configuration.

NVMe devices are only supported directly connected to a PCIe slot on the bus.

#VMware #vSAN 네트워크 구성이 올바르지만 서비스 활성화 시에 그룹이 나뉘는 경우.
최근 몇 개월 전에 겪었는데, 아무래도 트러블슈트를 경험했거나, 다른 vCenter에 연결되었던 ESXi를 재사용 하는 경우에 발생하는 것으로 보인다.
ESXi를 클러스터에 넣거나 빼거나 vSAN을 켜거나 꺼도, vCenter가 호스트의 vSAN 호스트 정보를 추가하거나 제거하지 못한다.
ESXCLI 통해 문제 확인 해결 할 수 있다. 콘솔에서 서버를 직접 추가 혹은 제거해주면 이후에 vCenter가 다시 통제할 수 있다.

클러스터에 오버레이 전송 노드 배포했는데 호스트 5대 중 3대 네트워크 구성 복구 불가능하게 죽여서 vSAN 스토리지도 죽으며 다 눕고 난리 났었다.
vCenter 없이 ESXi 호스트 초기화한 후에 CLI 통해 #vSAN 구성 넣어 스토리지 연결해 붙혀 정합성 살리고, vCenter 가동시켰다. 그리고 뗀 다음에 다시 붙힌 후에 vDS 재구성 복구. 대체 몇 년 만에 해보는 수동 복구 장애? ㄷㄷ
#NSX 요새 VIB 패키지 리부트 필요 없다며 동시에 병렬 처리하던데…… vSAN 환경이 네트워크 인터페이스 카드에 의존하고 있어서 데이터 센터 전체가 훅 가버리네,

그렇다면 양 측 AOps는 2대 만으로 witness 없이 CA 운영이 가능할까요?

@Aschenbrenner #vSAN does not recognizes if SSD have or have not PLP. That is the reason why the #VMware Compatibility Guide (VCG) sticks with devices only using PLP.
