Interesting. The Vancouver School Board just announced they're going to stick with the semester system AND extend Flexible Instruction Time (FIT) from 100 mins/week to 160 mins/week. Both these things were brought in due to COVID and returning from online learning. #vsb

Also last night, the ABC dominated school board pushed through a motion that brings back School Liaison Officers to #VSB schools. The process was broken, one trustee with a clear conflict of interest voted, and it was done over the objections of many BIPOC students and parents. And the BC Human Rights Commissioner.

I heard an interesting analogy at the DPAC meeting last week: if the cafeteria served something that made 10% of students ill, it'd be removed immediately.

On Monday, Vancouver's School Board will likely vote to bring VPD School Liaison Officers (SLOs) back to Vancouver's schools, 2 years after the previous board ended the program.

TODAY, the BC Human Rights Commissioner published a public letter, imploring all BC schools to terminate their SLO programs.

Will this affect the VSB vote?

Preparing myself for tonight's DPAC meeting, in which the #VSB's motion to restore the VPD's School Liaison Officer (SLO) program will be discussed. I bet @gordlau doesn't miss this at all.

The #VSB has released the motion calling for reinstatement of a revised SLO program next year. The motion will be commented on tonight by people who have already registered in advance (before knowing the contents of the motion) and will be considered by the board next week.

And, while you're doing that, can you please tell me @MichaelSchwandt@twitter.com how you're now going to advocate for further protection for these kids, when one-way masking has been proven ineffective, and you, yourself, have advised against tools like HEPA filters in #VSB schools?
