I guess at some point I should stop using #xsane for scanning. It's last new version was in 2014. It still works, but there are so many slightly annoying things about it that I know are never going to be fixed. http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/x/xsane/xsane_0.999-11ubuntu1/changelog
What's the state of #digitization software for #Linux now? Should I jump ship and pay for #Vuescan? This is mainly for monochrome photos and handwritten paper documents. #archiving #digitizing #kde

Another update on today's VueScan experiments:
I'm sure there are cases where multiple passes are beneficial, but trial and error - at least with my CanoScan 9000F Mark II - suggests that a single pass will yield the sharpest results. #VueScan
For those interested, VueScan finished doing 16 passes on the negative I'd selected. It took a really long time.
The resulting image is disappointingly soft. I repeated the process using just 3 passes, and its noticeably sharper.
Both were saved as TIF files at 9600 dpi (overkill, I know), with no sharpening applied in the scan. #VueScan
Wow les sponsor du logiciel #VueScan : Disney, US Army, Shell. Manque que Satan.
