Day 1531 This image of the Nebula aka is a combination of exposures of 120 seconds, 180 seconds, and 300 seconds using a new-to-me technique to get detail in all parts of the nebula. The Dumbbell is about 1200 light years away in the constellation. Formed sometime less than 14,000 years ago when nuclear fusion stopped in the core of a star like our Sun, it was the first ever discovered planetary nebula in 1764.

aka the Nebula is a planetary nebula in the constellation about 1360 light years from Earth. It was created about 10,000 years ago when a star similar to our sun ran out of fuel and expelled all of its gas and collapsed into a white dwarf. I tried a new process for this image, taking exposures of different lengths to try to capture various kinds of details in different parts of the nebula (with only moderate success).

Collinder 399 Coathanger

Random grouping of stars located in the constellation Vulpecula near the border with Sagitta. It was first described by the Persian astronomer Al Sufi in his Book of Fixed Stars in 964. The asterism is made up of 10 stars ranging from 5th to 7th magnitude which form the conspicuous "coathanger", a straight line of 6 stars with a "hook" of 4 stars on the south side.

NGC 6802

NGC 6802 lies at the east end of the "Coathanger" cluster within a keystone of four 9th to 11th magnitude stars in the constellation Vulpecula. The two stars at the northern corners of the keystone have widely separated companions. The cluster appears as a faint oval patch of haze in which seven stars are resolved.

M27 Dumbbell Nebula

Magnitude 7.4 planetary nebula located 1,360 light-years away in the constellation Vulpecula. It was the first such nebula to be discovered, by Charles Messier in 1764.
