@ophiocephalic While #Meta is certainly trying to get their foot into every door they can, Ben Savage of #Meta has become a member of the "Social Web Incubator Community Group" (#SocialCG / #SWICG). Anybody can join, see https://swicg.io/

The group that actually worked on standards was the #W3C "Social Web Working Group" (#SocialWG, closed in 2018). That being said, the "incubator" is influential, for sure.

As of now the #webcomponent state is treated as 2nd class citizen by #w3c

. For now only state which is permitted on declarative syntax is either attributes or payload DOM. Which actually meant for visual and initial state, not the heavy-duty transactional model. If WC would be able to produce and consume the state without custom serialization, it would work on all tiers.

There is a proposal to make it a part of web stack.

Working on it as part of #DeclarativeWebApplication

It just really continues to feel like #w3c is trying push #JsonLD into everything and the kitchen sink… regardless of if it fits and doing a "beat to fit paint to match" when it doesn't, the JSON-LD working groups and such are busy trying to figure out how to do a #YamlLD, and the rest of us are trying to figure out how to do this practically in production in a way that doesn't ignore all of JSON-LD, or just doing "JSON + a weird context obj."

The situation feels untenable on a few levels.

The #W3C #JSONLD v1.1 explanation of Context, which is what I would have described as a complex term, is masterfully terse but expressive. I am inspired to try more basic/shared analogies when explaining #LinkedData.

You're right. That is what my toot above related to. Since #ActivityPub became a #W3C Recommendation there would've been ample time to iterate on specs, iron wrinkles out, extend, align, etc.

Yet it didn't happen. Instead in grassroots movement observation is that everyone cares for their own initiative, much less for the technology sustrate they rely upon. We have a Fragmentiverse.

Above I call for simple cross-linking of initiatives. Zero interest.
