#fcitx? Too new.
#ibus? Too new.
#scim? Too new.
But I finally have #Japanese input in my #OpenBSD box with #uim + #anthy. Just a couple of caveats but possible. #netsurf can’t use it, and I’ve not tried #w3m nor #lynx yet, but at least I can use it on both #leafpad and #nvi.

Still trying two CLI IRC clients, and now another question: web browser.
Here the battle is between #lynx, #links and #w3m.
The first seems to be ubiquitous and quite fine, with also gopher support and Unicode, but tables are not rendered.
The second is quite fine, I love that it shows the target of a link in the status bar, but Unicode is really bad as it uses a bitmap font.
The third is very light weight, but not so comfortable.
What would you use?
Internet traffic generates a lot of CO2. Does anyone know of a browser for IOS or Android that offers both an ad blocker and a plain text mode? w3m for touch?

I'm sure the solution is easy, but I can't find it. I installed #OpenBSD on a VM, I still use only the console for now. When I try to browse the net with #W3M or #Gemini with #Amfora, it can't display non-ASCII letters. How could I change that? I would like to use #UTF8.
Thanks 🙂 !

@ajroach42 #w3m to the rescue!
like, always!
I also use it with sites where the idiot programmers though: React > Accessibility, and in about 7 out of 10 cases this makes the site still kinda usable :)
@ajroach42 w3m, links, elinks, elinks2.
w3m is far and away my preference. Vim-like bindings.

I use the excellent #emacs #Telegram app; then it's easy to open a given link in a text-browser is pretty nice for avoiding annoying ads (could also use Spray mode to speed read it, if I want, instead of the two-pane reading view). #FollowMode #W3M

I'm loving #w3m as my text mode browser. On my #OpenBSD box, I use #w3m more than any graphical browser. It's utterly fantastic for quick little searches. I've got a 'duck' shell script that takes /ARGV, constructs a search url, and feeds it into w3m or any other browser you want. Basically my own 'surfraw.' :D
Edit: wee little typo

My sit-on-the-couch computer is this #librebooted early 2010 Thinkpad X200t running #OpenBSD 7.2. I use it to run tut-tui (ssslowly), and do some *uber*-light web browsing with #w3m, #NetSurf, #luakit, sometimes #Dillo, and rarely, #Firefox and almost never #Chromium (even though it runs better than Firefox in OpenBSD* -- principles!!)

DuckDuckGo's "lite" interface is failing multi-word queries using w3m.
https://lite.duckduckgo.com/lite/ is a stripped-down basic interface to DuckDuckGo. I use this both with a Bash shell function that allows me to search straight from the commandline, and within w3m.
Both are failing any multi-word queries presently.
E.g., I can search "water", but not "why is water wet".
The latter search does work from within Chrome/Android.
I've edited the newsboat config to use w3m as a web renderer of the feeds in order to view the images also on the terminal and use less the web browser. Plus I've discovered the bookmarking service that comes built into w3m and it does a good job. It's not as complete as buku but I don't think I need this one anymore. #cli #newsboat #w3m
I am looking for a terminal web broswer.
Not only is it a good idea to be able to browse the web in the terminal like on a server using ssh, you can also browse the web on your computer more privately and supposedly faster.
Any suggestions?

Found some #incompatibility between #lightdm and #w3m . Curiously this apparently begun after I started accessing #gemini (but I cannot prove it; perhaps it's just a coincidence?). Anyway, cleaned /var/crash and reinstalled everything including #apport. Let's see what happens on the next reboot...
