I managed a visit to Bowling Green Marsh to just sit and gawp and be peaceful. Many waders present and it was pleasant just to sit and watch them.

WaderTales is a great blog written by Graham Appleton, full of articles looking at research relating to waders and shorebirds written in a very easy to understand way.

Here's a recent one looking at human disturbance impacts on shorebirds in Norfolk and Suffolk - "On the beach: breeding shorebirds and visiting tourists"

Moin, and are almost extincted in Germany, so we can see them only during or as winter guests.
At this time of the year they still have some rest of their summer plumage.
Sorry for bad pictures, I haven't had my birding equipment around during family holiday.

The Wadden Sea is the largest unbroken system of intertidal sand and mud flats in the world.
It is not only beautiful but also important for millions of birds stopping by during their migration.

22/7: Around the Exe estuary in Winter, we see a fair number of knot so it was good to see one with a bit of its summer plumage intact. In fact, today was the first time this summer that I've seen so many waders on the reserve. A sign, perhaps, that the season is turning already. Alongside the Knot, you can see , and

None came from inland, where more Oystercatchers are on their nests; they all appeared from off-shore, out on the mud of Morecambe Bay. We carry out the flights at low tide to avoid disturbing high-tide roosts that can number thousands!

So strong hints that it's non breeding Oystercatchers that don't like drones. But why?

Today's is about fluddles and what they mean for shorebirds. Here's an excerpt: "The entire landscape used to welcome shorebirds, and it provided abundant food for hundreds of thousands of years. But, over the past 300 years, we have recklessly remade the landscape to suit our purposes, and we have left very little habitat for wildlife." twibchicago.com/p/birdwatchers
