So one of #SouthAfrica's oldest #vfx & #animation studios closed its doors this month, in part due to the #SAGAFTRA and #WAG strikes forcing studios like #netflix who were already cutting back on shows to cut back even further!

I know it wont help my industry but a big part of me wants to #BoycottStreamingPlatforms in part to squeeze them, but also as a show of #support to those striking. Imagine how 3-4 months loss of income would make these platforms wake up!

Success for any #union help out the other unions. Our union has gone over 400 days without a contract. The employer didn't appear to bargain in good faith until after the #teamsters deal earlier this week.
Success for #sag & #wag can flow down to other unions.

Since the rise of #radio, #film, and #TV, most people have become spectators: observing instead of doing, most evenings.

This is not a value judgment; it's a plain fact.

i've wondered, for decades, if that might not have a bad effect over time. Substituting ersatz life for actual in our understanding of How People Live/Should Live.

The strikes, and the possibility that the "Watch-TV-&-Movies" use of our leisure time may end.../1

All workers should be watching these strikes to see what corporations see is possible with AI. Business owners large and small will be looking for ways of replacing l employees and using real people's real talents for free. If ever there will be something that could cause and warrant a strike of all workers all around the world this is it.
