I am a Zoos Victoria member. I love how committed and successful they are at their conservation efforts. I went to Melbourne Zoo today. I was in two minds about going. 1. It's school holidays. 2. The staff are striking for an increase in wages and better conditions.
Due to my autism and social anxiety I'm not a fan of crowds, especially children who either don't know social rules yet or don't care about them and have parents who allow them to ignore rules and conventions.
I support a wage increase of more than 3.5% as that is no where near close to meeting inflation. If the Andrews government is committed to a green future then conservation must be part of that vision. The staff of Zoos Vic, across all four sites, do a remarkable job and are amongst some of the most successful keepers on the planet. They should be praised, but more than that, they should be paid what they're worth.
I did go today. I turned my noise cancelling cans up to 11. Played chill house. Ignored the Lord of the Flies children, and gave as many thumbs up to staff as I could. If I was gregarious, I would have told them they have my support, but I'm not, so a thumbs up had to suffice.
If you're one of the thousands that go to the zoo every day, or if you don't go but believe in wildlife conservation, please write to the Andrews government and ask it to pay zoo staff appropriately.

Hands united, they cry
For higher wages, more staff too
A fight they will win

There is an ongoing online debate among my circles about the current proposed increase in minimum wage to Php 750 by the Congress of the Philippines.
Many pros/cons have been shared. I wonder if there are recent studies on the effects of raising wages, both positive and negative, on a developing country like ours? Maybe some of you could point me to them. Thanks!
