The first time ever, I was at Waitangi on Waitangi day. Attended the dawn service. What was really special was the different languages: Samoan, Tongan, Mandarin, Arabic, and Te Reo Māori of course.
I loved being here.

The book, originally released in 1990 and revised in 2004, is a history of Aotearoa from a Māori perspective. It had a profound influence and today remains as piercing and illuminating as ever. I'm looking for something for a younger kid, so pictures on every page spread is relatively important, but if theres a really good one for an older age group, sure I'll happily add that to my list too, I'm sure we'll get around it.
I do not want narratives that promote racism.
