For #WaitangiDay I didn't go to any celebrations but I did re-read an article about the #DoctrineOfDiscovery. It was used from 15th and 16th century onwards to justify taking land from indigenous people. It also forms the basis for corporate property laws still used now.

Today is NZ's #WaitangiDay. It is important to remember why the then colony of NZ did not join the Australian Federation in 1901. There was serious concern that the treaty would be nullified by Federation. Kiwis did not want their Maori treated like Aborigines. #auspol #TheVoice

The first time ever, I was at Waitangi on Waitangi day. Attended the dawn service. What was really special was the different languages: Samoan, Tongan, Mandarin, Arabic, and Te Reo Māori of course.
