In 1897 #onthisdate, George Moore, a long-time and well-known Seattle photographer, went out for his usual early morning walk and never returned. He moved to Seattle in 1870 and ran a series of successful studios, but friends said that by the autumn of 1896 he was nearly destitute. Newspapers reported that probably he committed suicide in a nearby forest or the waters of Lake Washington, but his body was never found. His death remains a mystery to this day.

My life's purpose now is to attain the degree of proficiency of others in the past. For example, Seattle photographer Henry Peterson (1843-1911) was awarded titles of Captain of the Host in the Lodge of Perfection *and* Master of the Second Veil. He also apparently had cherubs make photographs for him. Someday, I, too, shall reach those heights!

I've never quite understood the reason for the under-the-chin beard, but I guess if you're going to have one you should rock it like Thomas Mercer. https://digitalcollections.lib.washington.edu/digital/collection/boydBraas/id/32/rec/11

Whenever I think that I might need to update my camera gear, I'm reminded of Washington photographer Darius Kinsey (1869-1945) and his carload of cameras, tripods, plate holders, and more. This is what it took in 1914 to produce some of his images of the logging industry in the early 20th century. #photography #photohist #photohistory #Washington #WAphotogs #cameras #tripods
