Did you know that a #Russian #painter got slammed with viewing bans for 2 of his paintings - because they were too #antiwar?

Vasily Vereshchagin was a trained #war #artist, so when he held a new exhibition in 1871, expectations were high.

But two paintings shocked the onlookers.

A bad light on Russia! Viewing ban! The #German army marshal in attendance forbade his soldiers to view the #art & the #Austrian #empire followed suit.

The paintings are now in a gallery in Moscow.
