The Winged Figure of Victory festooned with frozen spiders webs and rime ice from yesterday's freezing fog.

Erected in 1922, this statue by F. W. Doyle-Jones sits at the top of the Whiteinch and Partick War Memorial, Victoria Park, Glasgow.

The statue on the top is a stylised representation of Dolores Ibarruri, who died in 1989, who was known as 'La Pasionaria' because of her rousing speeches against fascism. The most famous of these was her "No pasaran" ("they shall not pass") speech in 1936.

La Pasionaria, Clyde Street, Glasgow. Erected in 1979, this is a memorial to the members of the International Brigade who travelled to Spain in the 1930s to fight against fascism in the Spanish Civil War.

Below the statue, it says "It is better to die on your feet than live forever on your knees", something we do with remembering even to this day.

Discovered via Memorials website that William was remembered on a plaque at Ladymoor Methodist Chapel Dudley. IWM have no photo. Discovered that Ladymoor Chapel demolished in 1970's plaque was passed to Sedgley Museum, which itself closed in 2004, its contents then were passed to the Black Country Living Museum, I have emailed them asking if they still have it & whether I could have a photo of it, which I will pass to the IWM.
