So Italians out clubbing get free taxi rides home to prevent deaths in traffic (because some decide to drive drunk). How backward is this? The original problem is that they need to drive to begin with! This solution can't possibly solve that they even need to _drive_ there to begin with.

Wenn ein #Radweg von einer Straße unterbrochen wird, dann malt man am besten im Abstand von drei Metern links und rechts weiße Quadrate auf die Straße.

Das geht einfacher als vier blaue Schilder aufzustellen und einzubetonieren. Dann kann sie auch kein Auto umfahren. Spart also Kosten.

So make a habit of the #TorontoStop - like the #IdahoStop, it's a rolling stop at a controlled intersection but applied to cars, NOT bikes. Of course, it's not strictly legal, but it is awfully popular in #Toronto (and maybe your city too!) and, so far as I can tell, never ticketed by the police. That's one of the biggest short-term benefits of removing cars from cities: reducing particle pollution (from brake pads and tyres) and exhaust pollution, resulting in better quality of life and reduced medical expenses across the board. And reducing infrastructure maintenance cost, and shrinking cities (less need for broad parkings and roads) which pushes cities into positive feedback loops of wellness: shorter distances, more walking, better health, and happy businesses too.

In addition to, of course, reducing acoustic pollution (always insidious) and direct deaths and injuries by impact.

This is horribly tragic. While yes, protected bike lanes would help, we also need drivers to have better practices.

“The Dutch Reach” should be used when opening doors, reach with your opposite hand to open a door forcing yourself to look behind you when opening the car door. I’m still building the muscle memory for this.

I feel like this should be well publicized data: In 2021 Car fires have gone down to 175,000 highway fires. In the 1980's it was much hire: 456,000 yearly car fires. THESE NUMBERS ARE WILD.

Where is the NYTimes article about car fires? Next time complains about a eBike or an EV battery remember it's all click bait.
