The Republicans were sliding towards conserving the status quo! Republican and northerner #HerbertHoover won in 1928 hoping the good times would keep rolling.

#OnThisDay 101 years ago President #WarrenGHarding signed the Willis-Campbell Act into law. It forbid #doctors from prescribing #alcohol as medicine.

During #Prohibition when most #booze became illegal, doctors suddenly began to sing the praises of alcohol as a remedy to many common ailments.

This "#Beer Emergency Bill," squashed that loophole.
