Margaret Lindsay, Warren William and Dorothy Tree pose for the Philo Vance mystery, “The Dragon Murder Case” (1934). This was an entertaining light murder mystery. Also featured are Eugene Pallette, Lyle Talbot and more offbeat characters

“The Case of the Howling Dog” (1934) is the first Perry Mason movie. The others done by Warren William in the 1930s tend to be breezy affairs, as I recall. This one, however, is a bit more serious, with a little edge to it and it all works extremely well. Mary Astor does an excellent job as Mason’s mysterious client.
