At 13, I joined a new school. I wrote a concrete poem about a river, shaped like a river (see what I did there?) and the English teacher liked it so much he graded it A+.

The boy next to me turned to the table and said to the other boys, "I think we have a poet in out MIDST."

I felt utterly ashamed. Of course, now I'm delighted but but at the time I wanted to hide everything I ever wrote again.
