Tale of two Seikos, my 1978 Pogue and the tribute watch issued in 2022. The tribute, on the right, came with a silver second hand. I asked a friend to swap it out with a red one, and think it makes all the difference ... it's how Seiko should have built it in the first place. #watchcollecting #bigseikolittledick

The G-SHOCK MR-G B5000 Kiwami is the pinnacle of the original G-SHOCK design conceived in 1981 and launched as the DW-5000C in 1983. The bezel of the Kiwami has been transformed from a single block of resin to 25 components, each hand polished in the Zaratsu technique.
The primary bezel is made from COBARION, a cobalt-chromium alloy that’s 4X harder than titanium. The bracelet is made from a titanium alloy called DAT55G that’s 3X harder than titanium.

The Tudor Black Bay Pro was released in 2022 as a homage to the Rolex Explorer II 1655. Tudor was successful in adding its own elements, such as the Snowflake hands, replacing orange with yellow, and the fantastic monobloc lume indices. The superb textile strap, made by Julien Faure on 19th century looms near Lyon, France, is comfortable, durable, and looks fantastic. The Black Bay Pro is among the best “go anywhere, do anything” watches on the market.

Today I’m featuring a watch that nearly every collector has owned at some point, the legendary Seiko 5 SNK809. A classic entry-level automatic watch that’s tough as nails and tons of fun to wear on a variety of different straps. I owned this one for nearly 10 years and it ran perfectly the entire time.

I’ve been on a #watchcollecting journey for the past 15 years and will post some of the #timepieces I’ve been very fortunate to experience.
My first “real” watch was a #Rolex Milgauss, a wedding gift from my wife. It was my only watch for nearly a decade. It had a nice weight due to an internal iron case used to protect against magnetism. It’s the professional Rolex for scientists and, as a CS grad, it was a perfect fit. Sadly, it was stolen in 2018. I still hope to find it one of these days!

Panerai was the first brand that caught my eye in the early 2000s, because of the unique design and rich history. My first was the PAM1392, a 42mm Luminor model with a 1950 case and a fun pop of blue on the seconds hand.
The 42mm size was appealing since the 44-47mm models overwhelmed my wrist. The sapphire caseback let you admire the movement. A downside was the 100m of water resistance, not 300m like the larger models that I considered “true” Panerai.

Panerai was the first brand that caught my eye when I became interested in watches in the early 2000s. The unique design and rich history spoke me to. My first Panerai was the PAM1392, a 42mm Luminor Marina model with a 1950 case and a fun pop of blue on the seconds hand.

I’ve been on a watch collecting journey for the past 15 years. I think this will be a great space for me to share some of the timepieces I’ve been fortunate to have experienced.
Here’s my first “real” watch. A Rolex Milgauss 116400 that my wife gifted to me for our wedding. It was my only watch for nearly a decade. Sadly, it was stolen in 2018. I still hope to find it one of these days.

My hobby? Watch collecting.
This arrived today. An early Tudor from… mid 1930’s I’d guess.
The case is a Handley 9ct - it was a bit of a tax dodge back then to import just movements into Australia, then fit them into locally made cases. #TudorWatch #Handley #Rolex #WatchCollecting
