What an odd find today.

This is a pin from Richard Nixon’s 1960 presidential campaign, when he ran with Henry Cabot Lodge Jr.; an election they did NOT win, losing to John F Kennedy by only about 118k votes.
I fancy myself an expert on Watergate; every in & out, nook & cranny. I’ve been obsessed with it, & that asshole Nixon, since the first time I saw All The President’s Men as a kid.
Got lots of odd Nixon records & 45s, too. I should pull them out soon.

Book 16 of my @goodreads #ReadingChallenge, and yes I'm still catching up 😅

American #politics isn't my go-to, but after reading All The President's Men I simply had to get The Final Days. Woodward and Bernstein's work is phenomenal, reaching deep into the daily goings-on of the last days of Nixon's presidency. If you enjoyed the previously mentioned book, or the movie adaptation, then I'd strongly recommend this read.

On this date in 1973 the fact that Nixon's tapes existed was first revealed during an interview. It came out publicly on July 16, 1973 during Senate testimony which was televised. Of special interest is the "Rose Mary Stretch" where Nixon's secretary tries to take blame for "accidentally" recording over four minutes of the recording (deleting 18.5 minutes of a crucial conversation).
