A Water Hyacinth flower proving why the plant was imported.
The problem is that the plant has become a complete menace clogging waterways, depleting oxygen in the water and driving local flora and fauna to the brink of extinction.
Dredging doesn't help.
Biological interventions are slowly making a difference

The beautiful bluish purple Water Hyacinth is a free-floating aquatic plant or hydrophyte. One of the fastest growing plants known, Water Hyacinth reproduces primarily by way of runners or stolons, which eventually form daughter plants.
