Lake water levels drop worldwide due to climate change and human activities. A new study shows that more than a third of the world’s large lakes have experienced significant declines in water levels since 1990. This means that lake water levels drop could threaten freshwater ecosystems, biodiversity and human livelihoods.

I had started an account on but now can’t find it! I read this a few years ago. It is one of the few books that changed my mind about & impacts. I had (naively) sort of imagined melting ice to add to ‘sea levels’ but of course that’s very simplistic. The seas move with the moon, are effected by estuaries and are also deeply affected by rainfall. As ice melts the atmosphere itself holds more water so the ‘rising sea’ can actually fall out the sky.
