@Klaatu Yes, cleaning the brine tank is always good. When I clean the venturi I empty and clean the brine tank walls.

Also inside the brine tank, within the cylinder that holds the float there is an elbow joint. That joint can often be removed. Inside it there is a tiny screen which should be checked for obstructions.

If a #watersoftener isn't draining, that's the first thing I'd check (along with the drain hose's inner gasket).

If you have a #watersoftener, you have to do more than just add salt!

Once a year, flip the bypass and pull the power. Detach and examine the venturi (first pic), taking pictures of it as you disassemble. There are many tiny screens and gaskets that must be put back in a specific orientation.

If you don't have a filter before your water softener, your venturi IS the house's water filter. They are prone to clogging, particularly with rust.
