November 14th, is World Diabetes Day...
(recognized since 1991, 2006 WHO adoption).

First mentioned by Hesy-Ra in 1552 B.C., when the Egyptian physician, documented symptoms of a mysterious disease that also caused emaciation.

In 1921 Dr. Frederick Banting, a surgeon and Charles Best, a medical student, successfully isolated the hormone #insulin, bringing with it, treatment of a disease who's only treatment prior was starvation until death.

I'd like to say that diabetes isn't always on my mind, but it is. It really is. The easiest days with diabetes still include calculations, emotional responses to blood sugar data, guilt for not being able to manage my disease perfectly, worries about what might happen, and hope for the future of my health.

There's not a single day off. And the "forever" of this disease is still something I'm wrapping my head around.

Good morning! It's World Diabetes Day. I've been living with type 1 diabetes since 1986, diagnosed at the age of seven. My body stopped producing insulin over 36 years ago, and I've been supplementing with synthetic insulin since diagnosis. I currently wear an insulin pump to deliver insulin 24/7 and a continuous glucose monitor to track my blood sugar trends. This technology is life-saving, and expensive, and while very useful, is not a cure for this chronic illness.
