One of the weird – but somewhat obvious – utilities I – probably we – need is really good, free access to #WeatherData with the effects of #GlobalWarming being everywhere.

I’ve been hacking together a few things (flood maps, storm projections, pollution) this last two years (for hurricanes, earthquakes, typhoons, flash floods, sandstorms and high UV) but still surprised how much is paywalled or not intuitive without reading long documentation.

That being said, I like the Carrot app to bring some of these pieces together as a dashboard as a starting point.

Would love to hear about your go-to’s, and how you find the right data to make decisions from going outside, working from office or home, cancelling trips, masking up and deciding whether or not to evacuate in ambiguity.

My unpopular opinion:

Dark Sky had fantastic data and smothered in a shit UI. 3rd party apps like Carrot made better use of it.
Apple saw the value and acquired:
- gave plenty of notice
- added almost all features into free app
- made most data avail with WeatherKit.

Only bad news for those who whine about any kind of change.
