Did a touristy ramble around Massachusetts. Surprising scarcity of interesting weathervanes, considering the age and affluence of the town. Most churches have taken theirs down, it seems. Found one patriotic themed on a commercial building.

Weathervane shaped like a hackney horse with bobbed tail. It's interesting to me that the majority of weathervane horses are trotting, not cantering or galloping. The canter is a more comfortable gait for a rider. The trot is a safer and more efficient gait for a horse working in harness.

The steeple of a church near where I live. For much of the 20th century the town had a reputation for being gritty and run down. Given the recent impoverishment the amount of gilding didn't make sense. How did they afford the gold? Someone pointed out the town had once been far more prosperous: farms, mills, and a canal had been active in the first half of the 19th C. Prosperity has more recently returned in the form of commuter sprawl.
