In #Web1 you proved your #identity with #DNS.
In #Web2 you proved your identity with someone else's DNS (i.e. #Facebook, #Google, #Twitter) #OAuth
In the #Fediverse you prove your identity with OAuth on someone else's DNS, just like Web1 and Web2.
In #Web3 you prove your identity with #cryptography, and you don't need anyone's DNS.

By the way, a few weeks ago I made this "Powered by #NixOS" 88x31 button to put on my site after I migrated it to the new server. Feel free to use it!

Hey #AskFedi,
I'm thinking of writing an article about browsing Web 1.0 in the modern world (i.e., no JS, sometimes no CSS, sometimes no graphics at all).
Do any of you guys use online services that work well without JS?
Care to share for my post? :D

I think today I shall try sorting out an IRC bouncer, my first time trying to get one set up.

#TheVerge has been killing it recently. Great article and worth a read: https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/22/23803538/google-facebook-myspace-internet-culture-web-dot-com-crash

@ellie_made It's how things should work all the time! Service cannot continue, service gives a sensible amount of notice, the underlying (ahem) 'series of tubes' allows people to move to another service. #Simples #Web1.0

I’ve been doing this #online thing a long time, going all the way back to #BBSes in the 1980s, and every time people are allowed to interact with each other online it turns toxic. Maybe we got it right with #Web1.0 and should have just left it there? I think I want to develop a Mastodon client now that only allows you to compose original toots and read others (but no comments!).
Used #htmx first time on a project, looks pretty promising! Installing, learning, adding a small plugin for error handling and "boosting" (progressive enhancing) a filter toolbar took me 2 hours in total.
More Game Map Sites
We're still searching for old game info sites that are still up in 2023. Another couple of use are Video Game Maps, last updated in 2007 but still available, and Revned's Video Game Maps, which saw its last edit in 2016, but is mirrored on Github.
It feels, to me, like this is what the World Wide Web should look like, flat, static HTML pages with si
