Trying out self hosted #umami and #plausible #webAnalytics #openSource #googleAnalytics alternatives.

So far Plausible (which I have used as a paid service and like) won't start up, but got set up with Umami very quickly and it's working on three sites!

I like the idea of privacy-friendly non-cookie driven, reliable stats with a simple interface; both projects offer this.

My clients all use GA but very few understand it/use it fully, and with the sunset of UA and the horridness of GA4...

We are not a news site but Twitter referral sessions in Q1 2023 are down a lot on Q1 2022 against an overall increase in our Twitter followers.

Previously - apart from an atypical pandemic-related spike in Q1 2020 - Twitter referral sessions to website were on a fairly linear growth path.

Web Analytics! What do yous recommend?

For obvious reasons, not Google Analytics. And not-self hosted please. The more “ethical” the better obv.

This is just for person project(s). I don't need a professional service with guaranteed SLAs or whatever.
