Merry #WebGamesAdvent! We're now getting to the "Tier 1" games of my collection - games that (IMO) are actually *fun*.
"Star Hopper: Crank" is one of my favorites because it combines #spaceships, building, and #incremental elements.

For December 15th of #WebGamesAdvent we have
"The Lost Islands", a little #JavaScript game made for #JS13k.
https://js13kgames.com/entries/aelbahkat-the-lost-islands (⌨ needed)
I've imagined this as a small step towards a longer goal of building a proper #Ultima love letter / heartbreaker (along the lines of #TheDarkUnknown). This game features exploration and the #virtues, but not much else needed for a proper #RPG #CRPG.
#Trivia : The name of the land is an anagram of an old game. Can you guess it?

I missed yesterday's #WebGamesAdvent games: "Master of 1000 Suns", and the quasi-sequel "Master of 13k Suns". They're both #incremental games meant to be minimized versions of #4X space conquest games like #MasterOfOrion.

For today's #WebGamesAdvent game, we have "Return to the Moon: Lunar Lander 13k", made in #JavaScript with #SVG graphics for #JS13k. It is a loving tribute to the actual #Apollo lunar landing and the little genre of games that followed it.
The game: https://deathraygames.github.io/lunar-lander-13k/src/ (the moon portrayed as an asteroid due to time constraints; ⌨ needed)

"404 Orbiting Asteroids" is a game made for #JS13k featuring my first experiment with #WebGL. The gameplay is not much more advanced than #Asteroids, yet I still find it satisfying to fly around & blow things up. Both the asteroids falling into the sun and the bullet ricochets were accidents during development, but were left in to add a bit of risk to the game.

"Diabolical Genius" was the outcome of the first #GameJam (48 hr #LDJam #LudumDare) I ever participated in, 10 years ago. It wasn't the best game, but was complete -- and most importantly it led to a decade of regular game-making, so it holds a special place in my heart.
I won't include the link to it since it's not in a playable state at the moment, and I haven't gotten around to debugging it. Instead here's an image of the development plan on #IRL paper, and a screenshot.

"Min-Craft 1975" is just a limited copy of Notch's #MiniCraft. But limitations were by design because it is meant as a tribute to the #PLATO from the 70's & 80's, a system that led to quite a few groundbreaking yet forgotten video games.
Learn more: https://deathray.itch.io/min-craft-1975-plato
It was programmed using many of the same limitations that the PLATO had (w.r.t. screen, not memory), and the underlying #JavaScript framework, #OWLBAT, could be used for future projects.

Today for #WebGamesAdvent I'll combine 3 #JavaScript games in one post. They're older, made for #LDJam #LudumDare, and although they all are limited in some way, hopefully they still have some charm.
Tundra King and Life Loops are both quick, #NonViolent, and playable on #mobile.🤳
http://deathraygames.com/play-online/tundra-king/game.html and http://deathraygames.com/play-online/life-loops/game.html
Exo Aquatic is a barely playable (🚫📱) incremental, but had a nice art style.

Major Hammer was made for a #Gameboy jam, and as a memorial for a friend who was a big #StarTrek fan. The gameplay sort of mimics #Pokemon, but is of course more limited. Part of the gameplay relies on a hot/cold radar reading which ended up being a bit too cryptic.
You may want to check it out to see how the Gameboy can be made in #CSS, or if you just love GB retro games.

"StarDust js" is a little #JavaScript #physics game where you're a little planetoid who can eat smaller planetoids. The goal is to avoid hitting things bigger than you, get big, get all elements, and have life evolve. It was the first game I made for #JS13k - although I actually missed the deadline due to misunderstanding the time zone.

The 11th game of #WebGamesAdvent is RATS - #RoguesAmongTheStars. It has a fun concept - play a thief that teleports between #fantasy spaceships - but the implementation didn't get far beyond just a clone of #RuneStar due to the time limitation of #7DRL.

Pocketropolis is a #JavaScript game made with the challenging theme of "two buttons". I like the idea of building a city on a 2D circular world, and the button controls are implemented as well as they can be, but ultimately there's not much to do besides cut down all the trees.
#WebGamesAdvent - Long before making #JavaScript games regularly for game jams, I made a few prototype games. The best one began as a continuation of a #BASIC game I had made called "The Forest", but was later renamed "Legend of the Green Hydra" as a nod to #LegendOfTheRedDragon.
https://deathraygames.com/play-online/greenhydra/ Give it a play if you like slow, no-map #roguelikes, randomness, and ancient history.

I made Cyclopean Clicker for #LudumDare at a time when I was binging on Tap Titans. Play if you really like clicker incrementals, or you want to see an example of half-baked #SVG animation.

CosmicCom is for people who enjoy short, straightforward #incremental #browser #JavaScript games.
http://deathraygames.com/play-online/cosmiccom/game.html
For a while it was the most visited game of mine, and I never fully understood why. But nice to know it's been enjoyed by more than 1 person. If you enjoy it, let me know.

MORTAL is the 6th "game" of my December #WebGamesAdvent …although this is not really a game because it involves no choices. I rushed it out at the last minute for an old #LudumDare #LDJAM. Play it if you want to spend just 1-2 minutes to see a silly interpretation of a #LifeSim #Incremental.

Reptilian President was made as a satire of the #reptilian #conspiracy, and the poor choices of the 2016 presidential #election.
⌨ http://deathraygames.com/play-online/reptilian-president/ (best with keyboard; not great on mobile)
Play it if you want a short #pixel adventure recruiting citizens away from the red and blue camps. (If I had known then that one side would later embrace fascism and an insurrection, I would've given bonus points for zapping them.)

Deluge of Doom is the 4th game of #WebGamesAdvent. 🌊 http://deathraygames.com/play-online/deluge-of-doom/
You might like this game if you want to explore the competing #ClimateChange stresses of #ClimateMitigation + #ClimateAdaptation. It’s a simple, short building game, but moves fast.
You might fail the first time, but then *get it* the 2nd playthru. For some tips, see the LDJAM page https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/deluge-of-doom

The 3rd game of #WebGamesAdvent is RuneStar: Origins (#7DRL) - https://deathray.itch.io/runestar-origins ⌨✅,📱🚫
I developed this, my first #roguelike, while binging on Roguelike Radio. You might enjoy this if you’re into classic, text-based RLs, and want to try out a unique, dense combat mechanic manage 3 different “mana” pools for attack, balance, and endurance).
Tips: Get the axe and sun-stone from the 1st level; toss gold into the alembic to make a healing brew; select a special move then bump-attack.
#roguelike #7drl #webgamesadvent
Game 2 of #WebGamesAdvent → http://deathraygames.com/play-online/star-crasher/js13k/
Star-Crasher (#js13k) is a #game where you hobble around a generated planet. I like the concept of a game being played entirely from a starship dashboard, but unfortunately the UI was rushed, and the gameplay is overly cryptic.
The “Voxel Space” algorithm is the reason to try it out; I found it both conceptually interesting, and practical as a way to do 3D without too many bytes. But it’s too retro-looking and is limited only to terrain.
