I must thank @maelduin13 for helping ground the question @w3c must ask regarding the architecture of #Mastodon.
The federated structure leads to calomnies [1] being spread via tags [2], and allows slanderers to put pressure on non-full-time admins to censor toots that restore perspective.
Here we see this in action with US presidential candidates.
We need #WebScience and other groups to look into this.

#Mastodon is by far my favorite #SocialNetwork, but, as a #WebScience and #SocialMedia researcher, I have to at least expose myself to others. Today I tried #Nostr.

The requirement to create my own public-private #keys initially turned me off, but as someone who works with #cryptography, I get it. I installed the #iOS client and created a new account. To fully use the web client, I had to install a #browser extension.

This seems like a bit much for most. Who is the target audience for Nostr?
